Hi Rudy. So glad you found my blog!

That '$450 billion' figure pops up everywhere, though I'm still not sure exactly where it originated. Here is one example of where it is cited: http://www.packagingdigest.com/ShowDaily06/news3h.php.

Brooke, I'm in packaging and it is one of the most important drivers in the FMCG industry. While serving some of the market leaders in packaging we face every day what a huge effort the consumer brand undertake to make their products getting off the shelf.

one question, where is that 450 billion number from. Do you have more data like that? I would be really interested in this. If you need more material on sustainability, surveys and so forth do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards
RUDY

Very interesting, Brooke. I was fascinated to find out a few weeks ago that a few colleges (including Clemson University in South Carolina) actually offer degrees in Packaging Science. It's a discipline that takes involves elements of science, design, marketing,, and more--and yet we never seem to notice how significant an industry packaging has become.
